Canberra

As Australia’s capital city, Canberra is home to a diverse community who enjoy a large range of local family-friendly attractions, events and activities. Canberra’s proximity to the mountains and the coast provides the best of both worlds for those who enjoy the outdoors. Canberra is home to Australia’s premier university, the Australian National University, one of five universities located in the nation’s capital. An active city, Canberra also has a wide range of sporting facilities and is home to the Australian Institute of Sport. Canberra is also home to a number of national treasures, with renowned galleries, museums and wineries in the surrounding region. The result is a small but cosmopolitan city with a great food scene and plenty of creative flairs.

Suburbs of Canberra

Canberra is divided into four main town centres: Woden, Tuggeranong, Gungahlin and Belconnen. A number of ACT/NSW border cities and towns have a significant Defence presence as well as a variety of amenities and local events.
The city of Queanbeyan and the surrounding suburbs of Jerrabomberra and Googong are located just over the ACT/NSW border, about a 15-20 minute drive from the Canberra CBD. It’s quite common for Defence families to live in NSW, some only a few minutes from the border and some in a more rural setting at Murrumbateman, Royalla, Bungendore or Yass.
