Sydney is Australia's largest and oldest city and provides many options for living and recreation. Sydney is among the top fifteen most-visited cities in the world, with millions of tourists coming each year to see the city's landmarks. Its natural features include Sydney Harbour, the Royal National Park, and the Royal Botanic Garden. Man-made attractions such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Tower, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are great places to check out for locals and visitors alike.

Suburbs of Sydney and Surrounding Regions

If you are being posted to Sydney, your posting location will determine the housing solutions that will be offered. There are three main areas of Sydney where Defence members tend to live:

Liverpool / Wattle Grove

Southwest Sydney includes the areas of Parramatta, Bankstown, Liverpool, and Fairfield.

Penrith / Blue Mountains

Located at the foot of the picturesque Blue Mountains, Penrith is about 73 kilometres by road from Sydney CBD. Richmond is located 20 kilometres to the north of Penrith.
Areas close to the CBD

Sydney CBD extends about 3 kilometres south from Sydney Cove. It is bordered by Farm Cove within the Royal Botanic Garden to the east and Darling Harbour to the west. Suburbs surrounding the CBD include Woolloomooloo and Potts Point to the east, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst to the south, Pyrmont and Ultimo to the west, and Millers Point and The Rocks to the north.
