Katherine / Tindal

Hi and welcome to Katherine/Tindal. My name is Melissa Snell and I am your local Defence Special Needs Coordinator for the Katherine and Tindal areas

Katherine is the gateway to Western Australia, Darwin, the world renowned Kakadu National Park and the beautiful Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge).  It is the fourth largest town in the Northern Territory and is situated approximately 320 kms south-east of Darwin.

The major Defence establishment is RAAF Base Tindal located 15 minutes drive from Katherine.  The Army also has the Katherine Training Centre which is about 27kms from Katherine.

For more information about the Katherine/Tindal region, have a look at the handy Your Community section on the Defence Community Organisation website.  If you are interested in attending upcoming Defence Community Organisation events in your area, please visit the Events page.  You can also find comprehensive resources available for download from the Resources page.

Families with special needs posting into Katherine/Tindal need to be aware that resourcing, services and support for their special needs may not be available at all in the area, or there are lengthy waiting lists and in some cases, the family will need to travel to Darwin on a regular basis.  It is recommended that you put in place a Posting Plan with the DSNSG National Coordinator or contact the National Office on 1800 037 674 if you are considering a posting to this location.
By linking into us, you have access to the wider support, information and assistance that is available throughout our network.
